At Desert Hope Treatment Center, we offer a continuum of care that spans from medical detox to outpatient services. The level of care that a patient begins with is based on an initial assessment and several factors, such as co-occurring mental or physical health conditions, severity of drug and/or alcohol use disorder(s), and risk or history of severe withdrawal. Patients may transition to lower or higher levels of care when appropriate. 

Levels of Care at Desert Hope

Detoxification is often the first step in an addiction recovery program. The goal of medical detox is to safely stop using drugs and alcohol in a quiet environment with the help of 24/7 staff and medications that help relieve withdrawal symptoms. 

Inpatient addiction treatment can help those who may require 24/7 medical supervision and care and people with an acute or unstable medical condition, working toward medical stabilization.

Outpatient addiction treatment is offered in the form of partial hospitalization programs and intensive outpatient programs:

• Partial hospitalization programs (PHPs), also known as high-intensity outpatient programs (HIOPs) or day treatment, involve about 30 hours of treatment Monday-Friday. In a PHP, patients participate in various behavioral therapies, e.g., group therapy.
• Intensive outpatient programs (IOPs) involve at least 3 days of treatment per week for a minimum of 3 hours per day. An IOP is similar to the PHP but emphasizes aftercare planning and integrating back into daily life.

Behavioral Therapy

Behavioral therapy can play an important part in addiction treatment, with therapy benefiting the individual as well as their loved ones. Patients may participate in the following:

• Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT): This treatment has been found to be effective for a range of problems, including substance use disorder. CBT teaches people how to challenge negative thoughts and respond to them in a better way.
• Family and group therapy: Family therapy can help open up communication and discussions surrounding your addiction and the consequences it has had on your family. Group therapy provides a connection to others who are going through what you’re going through. These sessions can help those in treatment feel supported in their recovery journey.
• Motivational interviewing: This type of evidence-based therapy encourages people to motivate themselves into growing and changing, empowering them to achieve sobriety.

Addiction Treatment Medications 

While medications for addiction treatment may not be a part of every treatment plan, they may be prescribed to help reduce alcohol and opioid withdrawal symptoms and avoid return to use.

Patients at Desert Hope Treatment Center can participate in Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, and SMART Recovery. Support groups are helpful during and after treatment as they provide a long-lasting connection with individuals who are in recovery.
