Does My Insurance Cover Drug Rehab at Desert Hope?
The decision to enter rehab for drug or alcohol abuse can be an intimidating one. You may know you need help but be concerned about whether you can afford it.
While it’s completely reasonable to worry about costs, rehab may be much more affordable than you realize. Often, insurance covers some or most of the cost of substance abuse treatment.
The Affordable Care Act made substance abuse treatment an “essential health benefit,” mandating that most insurance plans provide coverage for this type of care. How much coverage is provided will depend on the plan and whether the treatment provider is in-network or out-of-network.
Does Desert Hope Take My Insurance?
We take many different types of insurance at Desert Hope. We also are part of a larger network of addiction treatment facilities run by our parent company, American Addiction Centers, which accept many local insurance providers from around the country. You can see some of the medical insurance providers that are in-network with us or our sister facilities below.
Desert Hope is in-network (INN) with most plans utilizing Behavioral Healthcare Options (BHO). Two major partners of BHO are:
- Health Plan of Nevada.
- Sierra Health and Life
If you have these insurance plans, you may be covered to some extent for treatment at Desert Hope. To see if your plan uses BHO to cover substance abuse or mental health treatment, check your insurance card. BHO should be indicated somewhere on the card.
Desert Hope is also INN with Managed Health Network (MHN), a subsidiary of Health Net that provides coverage for mental and behavioral health services.
Out of Network
Desert Hope accepts most commercial insurance policies on an out-of-network basis. Depending on your policy and plan type, your insurance should still cover some of the costs even if the treatment is out-of-network. You may call us at any time to discuss in more detail your insurance policy or check your benefits using the form below.
How Can I Check My Insurance?
Many people make the assumption that rehab will be too expensive for them and may make hasty decisions about the care they seek out. For example, they may decide to go through detox only, instead of opting for programs that provide a full range of treatments (detox, therapy, education, skills training, and more) and are more likely to result in long-term recovery.
Before making any such decisions, take some steps to see what your policy covers. You can do this in several different ways, including:
- Calling the number on the back of your insurance card.
- Calling to speak to an Admissions Navigator.
- Checking your insurance plan’s enrollment materials.
Confidential Benefits Check
Use our free and private benefits check to verify your coverage for substance abuse treatment.
Private vs. Government-Funded Insurance
Desert Hope accepts private insurance plans. Private refers to mainly the benefits plan largely funded by employers. If you receive insurance through your employer or you are on the policy of spouse, partner or parent who gets insurance through work, you are using private insurance. However, individual plans you pay for yourself are also private. Any insurance plan that is not offered by a state or federal agency is private. Desert Hope is out-of-network with most private plans with the exception of those utilizing BHO.
Desert Hope does not accept government-funded insurance plans. This includes Medicare and Medicaid.
Coverage for Veterans
Unfortunately, military veterans are disproportionately impacted by PTSD and substance use disorders. More than 20% of veterans with PTSD develop an addiction.2 If you’re a veteran who needs help, reach out to us. You don’t have to suffer alone. Desert Hope offers specialized treatment for veterans struggling with addiction.
TriWest provides benefits for veterans seeking treatment. For questions about our veterans’ program and how you may be eligible to receive care at Desert Hope through TriWest, please call us at .
Desert Hope is also now a community care provider (CCP) in the VA’s community care network. Veterans eligible to receive community care may be able to attend rehab at Desert Hope using their VA benefits.
Not Covered at Desert Hope? Don’t Give Up
Desert Hope is part of a broader network of treatment facilities operated by American Addiction Centers. If your insurance is not covered at Desert Hope, you may be covered at another one of our facilities. We have locations in:
- New Jersey
- Rhode Island
If you live in Nevada, you may only be looking into programs in the state; however, it might be a benefit to you in the long run to travel away from home for treatment. Doing so can physically remove you from triggers and the people, places, and things you associate with substance use and give you a chance to refocus on what really matters to you.
Our Admissions Navigators can help you determine whether your care will be covered at one of our facilities when you call us at .
Other Options to Pay for Rehab
If you don’t have a current insurance policy, don’t give up. There are other payment options available to you, including:
- Grants or scholarships, such as those available through the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration or other organizations. Check with your local behavioral health administration for more details.
- Healthcare loans or healthcare credit cards to help pay for needed treatment.
- Dipping into savings, including borrowing from some retirement programs like IRAs or 401ks.
At first, the idea of getting a loan or borrowing from an IRA may be frightening. You may think you’re destroying your future by pulling money from a retirement account. But consider the cost of not getting help now. You can always save your money again, but you won’t get a second chance to save your life.
