Short-Term Drug & Alcohol Rehab in Las Vegas, NV

Making the decision to begin addiction treatment can be life-changing.1 Thankfully, there are many different types of addiction treatment options available to you, including short-term treatment options. When you make the decision to start your recovery journey, know that the length of time you will spend in treatment will be reflective of your individual needs.

This page will explain short-term drug and alcohol rehab options.

Short-Term Addiction Treatment at Desert Hope

Many people begin their recovery with medical detox, where withdrawal symptoms are safely managed while under the supervision of clinicians. Detox is often followed by admission into a treatment program, such as those offered at Desert Hope. Detox can be an important first step in a person’s recovery, however, detox alone is rarely sufficient treatment to support long-term abstinence. 1

If you seek treatment at Desert Hope, you can expect to complete an intake process which will be followed by a tour of the facility and close monitoring of your physical symptoms for the first 24 hours of rehab treatment after you arrive. Depending on your medical status, you may begin therapy the first day. Individual and group therapies are offered as well as family therapy and educational groups. Desert Hope offers several evidence-based therapeutic interventions, including cognitive behavioral therapy, which can help you recognize and adjust maladaptive thoughts and behaviors that may otherwise support continued, compulsive substance use.

Upon completion of treatment, you can continue receiving support through our rehab aftercare services. Aftercare can include our sober living program, outpatient programs, alumni support, and access to our recovery app to help you continue to strive for your recovery goals after treatment is finished. Some of our aftercare services, including sober living and outpatient programs, can even beneficial for those who cannot or who do not want to attend a long-term treatment program. These programs can also be an alternative to a short-term inpatient stay in rehab.

What Is a Short-Term Rehab Program?

At Desert Hope, we offer both short-term and long-term options for inpatient rehab. Short-term options are usually 7–29 days. We also offer separate month-long rehab programs and 60-90 day addiction treatment plans. Your substance abuse and medical history, your recovery goals, and other factors will be taken into consideration when working with a licensed addiction or medical professional to determine the appropriate length of treatment for you.

As previously mentioned, detox is an important first step for many people starting recovery, but research suggests that for most people with SUDs, detox alone isn’t sufficient treatment to achieve long-term abstinence. Rehab involves many different evidence-based psychotherapies and treatments, which can include:2

  • Cognitive-behavior therapy (CBT) is a type of psychotherapy where cognitive, emotional, and behavioral functions are viewed collectively. CBT works to identify problematic thinking patterns and restructure them to be positive so that behaviors follow accordingly.3
  • Motivational interviewing is a therapeutic technique used to resolve a patient’s ambivalence surrounding their recovery. This is done by focusing on cultivating personal, intrinsic reasons for making these behavior modifications.4
  • Family therapy is a type of therapy where families come together to improve upon interpersonal relationships with one another so the family unit can function well.5
  • 12-step facilitation therapy is a form of therapy has patients participate in 12-Step self-help groups. The three main focuses for behavior change and recovery in 12-Step facilitation therapy are acceptance, surrender, and active involvement in meetings.6
  • Medications, such as buprenorphine, methadone, and disulfiram, can be important components for patients who are in the process of recovering from opioid use disorder or alcohol use disorder.7

Can You Go to Rehab for Just a Weekend?

The length of time for your treatment will vary based on the severity of your substance use and other factors. If you require medical detox, that process often takes anywhere between 5–7 days to complete. In some instances, detox can take longer. After detox, you may decide to attend inpatient or outpatient rehab, which can last, on average, anywhere from 30 to 60 to 90 days or more. Inpatient treatment addresses not only your physical substance use, but also the psychological and emotional issues you may be experiencing, too.1

Is Short-Term Rehab Effective for Treating Addiction?

Short-term addiction treatment is a great way to start on your path to recovery, but a long-term drug and alcohol rehab program is the most effective way to achieve life-long sobriety. The length of time a patient spends in treatment can be a major factor in ensuring a successful outcome. Studies have continuously demonstrated that remaining in treatment for an adequate amount of time is crucial in establishing lasting recovery. Recovery from a substance use disorder is a long-term process frequently requiring multiple episodes of treatment.1

Other types of treatment that can supplement your stay in rehab include 12-step or mutual support groups, sober living homes, and individual or group therapy.
