Desert Hope Celebrates Pride Month
Recovery from a substance use disorder involves a lot of work, but that doesn’t mean it can’t also be fun. Desert Hope Treatment Center regularly plans many activities and gatherings onsite to encourage its residents to come together and socialize. On Sunday, June 26, 2022, Desert Hope celebrated Pride Month with patients and staff with an onsite BBQ.
Patients and staff got to let loose a little with activities that included:
- Water balloons and super soakers.
- Art/painting stations for patients to express themselves creatively.
- Volleyball games.
- Cornhole and horseshoes.
Patients and staff also enjoyed barbecued hamburgers and hot dogs prepared by the fabulous culinary staff at the facility. For dessert, Desert Hope brought in a shaved ice truck to handout snow cones for everyone.
In recognition of the LBGTQ+ community at our Las Vegas program, Desert Hope also ran an LBGTQ+ meeting during the event. This meeting—previously offered weekly—is now offered twice per week near the facility.
Desert Hope has always made it their goal to be a haven for our LGBTQ+ patients. We know that identifying as LBGTQ+ increases one’s risk for stigma, harassment, and discrimination—all of which can increase a person’s substance use risk and make it harder to recover. Our Las Vegas rehab provides a safe space in which or patients can process personal issues related to their substance use.
