Celebrity Interventionist Mike Diamond Joins AAC
Celebrity interventionist Mike Diamond has recently joined American Addiction Centers as the Director of Engagement and Intervention Services. Known for his roles on hit television shows and as a motivational speaker, Diamond is currently in recovery, and plans on bringing his life experience to AAC.
Looking back at Mike Diamond’s life and seeing his journey to recovery can serve as an example to those currently struggling with addiction.
When Addiction Occurs Early
Mike Diamond struggled with substance misuse and addiction from a young age. Trauma led him to begin misusing substances when he was twelve years old.
While most young people can maintain good health, substance misuse during one’s teenage years can easily escalate into an addiction during adulthood. This is what happened to Diamond, as despite having many hobbies and talents, he struggled with an addiction throughout most of his young life.
When he moved to America, Diamond was presented with many new opportunities, but also new stressors that worsened his addiction.
Careers, Stardom, and Addiction
After moving to America, Mike Diamond started his career in the entertainment industry. While still struggling with addiction, Diamond got several roles in popular television shows, ranging from Miami Ink to Sex and the City. While Diamond’s career was at a high point, his addiction struggles had escalated, too.
High-stress jobs can present a risk of substance misuse and addiction. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) shows that many professions have over 10 percent of full-time employees reporting heavy alcohol use in the past month. Arts, entertainment, and recreation professionals are one of the highest groups in the study, with nearly 11.5 percent reporting heavy alcohol use within the past month.
Realizing he couldn’t continue and needed to care for himself, Diamond sought out sobriety. After achieving recovery, Diamond went on to become a certified addiction recovery expert and interventionist. In addition to appearing on the show Intervention, Diamond has written several books.
And, most recently, Diamond has joined AAC to help more people achieve recovery.
Elevating the Impact of AAC’s Mission
Mike Diamond joined American Addiction Centers as the Director of Engagement and Intervention Services several months back. Working from Desert Hope Treatment Center in Las Vegas, Diamond has become a common presence on AAC’s social media channels.
Diamond also recently appeared on an episode of Addiction Talk, where he discussed his past and how it led him to recovery.
“When you can’t trust people in your environment, alcohol and drugs are unconditional. They never say no,” Diamond said in a recent episode of addiction talk, highlighting not just his own experiences, but the experiences of many who turn to substances to escape trauma and stress.
“Mike isn’t just joining AAC; he’s elevating our mission and our impact,” AAC Co-CEO Ellen Jo-Boschert wrote recently.
While everybody’s journey to recovery may be different, Mike Diamond’s story can serve as an example that recovery is possible for those who seek it.
