Desert Hope has a new CEO, and he’s shaking up the way the facility interacts with its clients.
Derek Price joined Desert Hope in early December. From the get-go, it became apparent that Price wasn’t going to be your run-of-the-mill executive. While many would reasonably expect the CEO to spend the day cooped up in his office, answering important calls or reviewing business documents, Price is not content with this image. Instead, he’s placed himself on the treatment floor throughout the bulk of the day, interacting firsthand with patients working towards addiction recovery.
Track Record of Hands-On Success
Before Joining Desert Hope, Derek Price owned and operated more than a dozen multidisciplinary clinics. In addition, he also operated an anesthesiology clinic, a billing company, and several CrossFit gyms. Additionally, his work as a business consultant in the healthcare industry has helped shape his treatment ideology.
“If I’m at a desk for more than an hour a day, that’s not typical,” Price said when asked about his reasons for being on the treatment floor. “I want to hear their (patients’) stories and learn what we can do to better serve them. You can’t get that connection sitting behind a desk. That’s the culture I want to create at our facility…”
Price’s hand-on approach to connecting with his facility’s patients highlights his dedication to transforming Desert Hope into a facility that offers community in addition to treatment. “With our nation and our community in crisis, people need to know there is hope and help,” Price said.
