Levels of Care
When you or your loved one first arrives at Desert Hope, our staff will perform a comprehensive medical and psychological evaluation to determine the appropriate level of care.
During the intake process, we will determine the appropriate level of care by assessing things like:
- The severity of drug and/or alcohol dependence.
- The potential for withdrawal symptoms.
- Co-occurring disorders.
- Psychosocial history.
- Current health problems.
At Desert Hope, we offer a full continuum of care spanning from medical detox all the way to outpatient services. You or your loved one can move through the continuum during treatment and transition to lower levels of care when ready.
Desert Hope will consider any person for admission regardless of race, religion, gender identity or expression, sex, age, sexual orientation, national origin, physical or mental handicap, or referral source. Individuals requesting admission to our treatment center must be 18 years old or older.
Medical detox allows you to safely withdraw from drugs and alcohol in a quiet, stable medical environment while receiving 24/7 care and supervision. Medical detox usually lasts between 5 and 7 days, during which our physicians and nurses will help alleviate your withdrawal symptoms.
The necessity for medical detox will depend on the substance being used, the severity of dependence, anticipated withdrawal symptoms, and co-occurring mental health disorders. To ensure the safety of all patients who go through detox, Desert Hope utilizes EarlySense technology, a device placed under the patient’s bed that provides nursing staff with real-time vital signs so they can proactively respond to potential high-risk medical situations.
If you arrive at Desert Hope with an acute or unstable medical condition that requires a high level of medical supervision, you may be assigned to our inpatient rehab program. Inpatient rehab provides you with 24/7 medical care and supervision to keep you safe and medically stabilized.
This level of care comes with your own customized treatment plan that includes individual and group therapy sessions and therapeutic activities. If you are diagnosed with a co-occurring disorder such as depression or PTSD, you will receive therapy that addresses both your substance use disorder and mental health disorder.
Residential treatment is ideal for those who need 24/7 medical monitoring, but who do not have an acute or unstable medical condition that requires a high level of medical care. Our residential treatment program allows you to live at our facility for the duration of your treatment program while you actively participate in individual and group therapy sessions.
Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)
Patients who join our PHP receive therapy at least 5 days per week for a minimum of 6 hours per day. This highly structured treatment program includes individual and group therapy and a wide range of experiential therapeutic activities.
You will spend 90 minutes in a process group with an assigned therapist and peers, and spend all remaining programming hours receiving psychoeducation. PHP also allows you to engage and connect with other community members through peer support groups and sober activities.
Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)
Patients who join our IOP receive therapy at least three days per week for a minimum of 3 hours per day. Our IOP is structured similarly to our PHP but is less restrictive and focuses more on helping you integrate back into your daily life in a healthy way.
During your time in an IOP, you will work on finalizing aftercare plans and learn how to embrace a new, healthier, sober lifestyle.
Patients who complete one or more treatment programs at Desert Hope can transition to a nearby sober living facility if they want to keep focusing on recovery but aren’t ready to return home. Those who transition to a local sober living facility in our network can receive transportation to and from Desert Hope Outpatient Center to participate in ongoing evening therapy sessions 3 nights per week.
Sober living is highly beneficial for those at high risk for relapse and who need a supportive social network to stay on track with recovery.
Planning for Your Aftercare
During your time at Desert Hope, you will work with your treatment team to make a plan for the next steps to take when you leave your current program. We want you to keep your momentum and stay focused on your recovery, and we do everything we can to help you do so.
